Nutrition & Supplementation

Weight Training & Nutrition Notes

The formula for success is a three-part formula: mental attitude, nutritional excellence and exercise.  In that order!  Without one all three become less effective.  So remember your goals are on one side of the balancing scale and this formula is on the other. Keep them balanced.

Surround yourself with positive like-minded people that have similar goals. We are more likely to feel motivated when we are feeling good and have a good support system. This may mean making a list of the negative people that you will spend less time with.

Balance out your intense training days with days of recovery training for example a yoga class or outdoor trail walk. Balance your energy out with your energy in.

Make sure you always have a large bottle of water with you. Keep extra protein powder in your car or bag so you always have a snack with you and you don’t end up going for hours with out eating.

Focus is one of the most important aspects of training and having peace of mind.  We have all been in the gym and seen others who after years of training don’t seem to change at all.  Why is that?  Focus on your muscles and their function, in a sense you are telling them to grow, to tighten, and to change.  If you merely go through the motions and spend your time preoccupied with whom else is in the gym and talking, nothing can get accomplished, not matter how hard you try.

Form specific, measurable, and realistic goals and never lose sight of these goals.  The sacrifices you make to achieve them will be well worth it in the end!  Not only will you be fitter, stronger, and leaner, but also your immediate and long-term health will surely benefit from a healthy eating program.

Weight Training & Nutrition Notes

Don’t skip workouts.  Excuses and reasons are always plenty.  Exercise is no different than brushing your teeth or having a shower.  The value is the same, if not more!  It can save your life!  Exercise is only part of the formula for success.  It is a three-part formula: mental attitude, nutritional excellence and exercise.  In that order!  Without one all three become less effective.  So remember your goals are on one side of the balancing scale and this formula is on the other. . Keep them balanced.

Make sure you bring your water to the gym, it is important to keep yourself hydrated.  Especially while doing your cardio.

Try to eat at least 45 minutes before your workout.  Working out on a full stomach can make you feel sick and at least make your workouts very uncomfortable.  On the other side, eating on an empty stomach can leave you queasy and lightheaded.  You should feel comfortable but not full.

Try to maintain strict form when using weights.  Injuries can happen very quickly in the gym and usually they are caused by improper form.
